The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) faces a penalty of Rs 14.4 crore if it fails to revive the Shivri solid waste treatment plant within two weeks.

The Times of India reports that a show cause notice has been issued to the LMC by the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB).

The Shivri plant, located on Kanpur Road, has been lying defunct for the past two months. It has led to the accumulation of 2.5 lakh metric tonne waste near the plant, causing ait and water pollution in the vicinity.
