Officials from the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) are currently in Chennai to assess the city’s waste management model. Urbaser Sumeet, which manages SWM operations in Chennai, is playing host to the Ludhiana officials, a company representative has confirmed to SolidWasteIndia.com
The Ludhiana civic body is planning to hire new SWM contractors and Urbaser Sumeet invited the committee to showcase its work. The 12-member Ludhiana committee is led by the mayor, Balkar Sandhu. The committee will also look into the working of the Greater Chennai Corporation.
The Ludhiana MC plans to hire separate contractors for lifting garbage from the city and processing waste at the main dumpsite. Tenders for the same will be issued soon.
