Waste segregation at source (WSS) will be uniformly implemented in all 60-wards of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) from October 2.
Following a pilot run, authorities have decided to go ahead with their plans. They will give a maximum grace period of 10- days after which fines will be levied. The fine
ranges from Rs 1,500 for not segregating household waste to Rs 25,000 for dumping construction debris in open spaces.
MCC is also considering setting up CCTV surveillance in open spaces that have become debris dump ground. MCC has sensitized Antony waste handling cell ltd that handles the city’s waste of around 350 tonnes per day to suitably ramp up their infrastructure, reports The Times of India.
