The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has fined the JP Nagar branch of Manipal Hospitals Rs 1 lakh for violating waste management rules.
The News Minute reports that the hospital staff was found handing over medical waste mixed with dry waste to an open lorry. A penalty challan of Rs 1 lakh was raised.
Bio-medical waste is to be handled as per Bio-medical Waste Rules 2016 only. Under these rules, healthcare establishments must categorise and dispose of biomedical waste into different coloured bags to identify the type of waste.
