In its efforts to decentralise waste management, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has identified seven sites to set up small biomethanation plants with capacity to churn 2-10 MT of kitchen waste to electricity.

While one plant will start operating from January 1, 2022, three others are expected to be complete before March 31. The MBMC says that once all the plants become functional, it will be able to process a total of 100 metric tonne of waste each day, reports The Free Press Journal.
