MNRE: 90 WTE projects underway

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is implementing 90 projects under its Waste to Energy program. Union Minister of Power Mr. R K Singh informed the Lok Sabha that these projects include 7 biogas generation projects with a cumulative production capacity of around 83,400 cubic meters/day, 34 bio-CNG projects with a cumulative capacity of 248,000 kg/day and 49 power projects with a cumulative production capacity of about 330 MW. Earlier this month the government announced 500 new waste-to-wealth projects under the GOBARdhan program.

The WtE program has a budget outlay of Rs 6 billion for FY 2021-22 to 2025-26. It supports setting up projects for generating biogas, bio-CNG, and power from waste through central financial assistance.
