The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has announced it will extend it’s Waste to Energy program beyond March 31, 2020. The program will continue without any changes in its scope, nature or coverage.

In March, Solidwasteindia had reported that under the program, central financial assistance (CFA) in the form of capital subsidy and grants in aid will be provided. Revised guidelines for WtE had also been announced, including MSW-based projects.

The objective of the program is to promote setting up projects for biogas generation, bio-CNG, and power from urban, industrial, and agricultural waste.
