Nashik waste collection rose by 20% in pandemic year

The Nashik Municipal Corporation has said that daily garbage collection in the city has increased by 20% during 2020-21 due to the Covid pandemic.

NMC officials said they would collect around 502 tonnes of garbage per day on average during pre-Covid times, but garbage collection was 605 tonne per day in the last year.

This was mainly due to the fact that people were at home and used single-use materials like plates, cups, spoons and other materials.

The civic body says it has deployed divisional level contractors in all the six divisions to collect garbage from door to door in the city and transport it to the compost plant at Pathardi. Around 270 vehicles, including 12 small vehicles, are being used by the contractors to collect waste generated in households and commercial establishments, reports The Times of India.
