By late April, the government of India will launch a scheme called GOBARdhan Yojna (Galvanising Organic Bio Agro Resources) at national level. GOBARdhan Yojna aims at increasing cleanliness in Indian villages and producing bioenergy. As Tribune India indicates, there are 300 million cattle in India, producing 3 million tpd of manure waste, which is the largest livestock in the world. Under the scheme, as further stated, one village each would be selected in 700 districts. Subsequently, the scheme provides for seeking technical assistance for developing biogas projects in the selected villages. The scheme will receive funding from the central (60%) and state governments (40%).
