Gurugram’s new Municipal Commissioner Mr Mukesh Kumar Ahuja who took charge on Tuesday, has announced that effective waste disposal is among his top priorities. Mr Ahuja visited the Bandhwari landfill site and held a meeting with Ecogreen representatives and MCG officials to understand the reasons for the garbage accumulation.

As per The Times of India, the officials told the MCG chief that one of the biggest problems is that there are no takers for the refuse-derived fuel (RDF) and compost produced after the processing of waste at the landfill site. The functioning of trommels was also cited as a problem due to on-site space constraints.

Mr Ahuja said that the MCG should focus on legacy waste treatment and the setting up of the waste-to-energy plant.
