The proposed new WtE facility to be built at Narela-Bawana, Delhi, is currently expected to be completed by August 2025. According to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), the Municipal Corporation Of Delhi (MCD) has floated a tender for a 3,000 tpd facility.

Bid due date was 14 October 2022, as further stated. Once this facility is completed, the Bhalswa landfill site is expected to cease accepting further MSW amounts, as per the report.

As of March 2021, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has completed the plan for setting up a WtE facility next to the Bhalswa landfill. Back then, construction works were expected to start in the following financial year. Moreover, as of 2022, 4,600 tpd of waste are being produced in the NDMC area, half of which is sent to an already existing WtE plant in Narela-Bawana, the other half to the Bhalswa landfill.
