New waste segregation centre in Jammu

A new waste segregation centre has been inaugurated in Bandurakh, Jammu.

State Times reports that the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), which presently implements door-to-door garbage collection in 53 wards, has launched a pilot project to collect segregated waste from residents in Ward 56, which will be further transported to Bandurakh in modernised autos with compartments. Wet wastes will be converted into compost while inorganic material, segregated into different categories, will be handed over to registered recyclers.

At Bandurakh, JMC has constructed 29 compost pits for wet waste and will further construct a dry-waste collection centre with the help of UNDP for segregation and recycling of dry-waste.
