The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to deposit Rs 2 crores for failing to execute its orders to clear legacy waste at Uruli Devachi and Phursungi, issued in 2018 and 2020.

The amount will be used for environmental restoration at the dumpsites. The NGT bench observed that there is no scientific disposal of the dumped waste at the sites and open dumping continues despite the ban imposed by the Supreme Court.

The petitioners comprise locals and activists who submitted the evidence of violation of earlier orders and Municipal Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 and other environmental laws, reports Pune Mirror.
