NGT directs SDMC to manage Mayapuri dhalao

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued its order to the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and the SDM, Mayapuri regarding allegations of failure to manage waste bin (Dhalao) at Mayapuri Industrial Area Phase-II, New Delhi. An action taken report was filed by the SDMC on January 11, 2020.

The report said that the dhalao (No. 137 Mayapuri Ph-ll, Ward No. 010-S) accumulated a huge quantity of garbage, where approximately 6-7 metric tonnes (MT) per day was dumped. Thus, if the dhalao was closed, the sanitation of the area would be badly affected. Also, there was no other dhalao in the nearby vicinity where the garbage could be diverted. Therefore, this dhalao was essentially required to be maintained and should not be closed or shifted.

The SDMC assured that the dhalao would be maintained on a regular basis and that M/s EESL would provide appropriate machinery equipments, sufficient staff at the site to remove the MSW collected/dumped frequently as well as keep the dhalao neat and clean and maintain the hygienic condition at the site.

The NGT directed the SDMC to take appropriate steps to maintain the waste centre (dhalao) scientifically as per statutory rules, free of vector and bad odour so as to manage the waste.
