The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered an inquiry against concessionaire IEISL, which operates the Ghazipur Waste to Energy (WtE) Plant in Delhi. In an interim report to the tribunal, the panel ordered an investigation into the concessionaire, noting that the plant was shut between November last year and May 6 this year, but then shut down within a week and resumed operations only on July 15, 2022.

The plant was shut for more than seven months, said a panel appointed by the NGT. It has also asked the Delhi civic bodies to consider temporarily diverting waste from east Delhi to the Okhla landfill.

The committee has requested that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) expedite the allocation of land to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for the construction of an integrated solid waste management facility in the city’s eastern outskirts, according to Hindustan Times.
