Nitin Gadkari pushes for use of waste rubber and plastic in road construction

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has said road construction costs must be reduced without compromising on quality. Addressing the 17th Annual Conference on ‘Road Development in India’ organised by Indian Infrastructure, he said that using different waste materials like waste rubber and plastic in road construction reduces dependence on cement and steel, reports Swarajya.

Indicating the government’s commitment to encouraging alternatives, he said that plans are underway to formulate a policy for making bitumen from biomass.
