The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has started serving user charge notices to bulk garbage generators for picking up their waste.
Several shopkeepers, big commercial units, big hospitals, schools and colleges have been served notices amounting to lakhs of rupees for recovery of pending user charges. The Solid Waste Management Bylaws of 2018 had made user charges mandatory but the Corporation had not strictly implemented it.
The Times of India reports that other Delhi corporations will soon follow suit.
