The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has actively been involved in improving the solid waste management system in Panaji since January 2019. It has been collaborating with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), in partnership with TERI, with an aim to improve the waste management practices in the city
The collaboration is done under the project titled ‘Development and Management of Waste NAMA (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA) in India’. This Indo-German project is commissioned by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety (BMU), Germany, with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India as the lead executing agency.
It seeks to assess the current status of municipal solid waste management in the city, and suggest possible interventions to improve the management capabilities, and readiness of the city to tackle waste. Read more about the initiative in the first edition of the Swachh Panaji newsletter here.
