The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) has given its green signal to a slew of solid waste management projects proposed by the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP). These include tipper trucks, screening machines, compactors, composter machines and bio-digester units for wet waste processing.
The Herald Goa reports that the multi-deck vibratory screening machine will be purchased at a cost of Rs 1.20 crore. Two 5 TDP bio-digester units will also be set up for processing wet waste. Currently, the Corporation is able to process and treat only 50 percent of the daily organic waste collected from the state capital. Two mechanically-operated composter machines are being purchased to convert leaf waste to compost within a short span of 7 to 10 days since currently the time taken for composting leaves is more than two months. Each day, Panjim generates over 5 tonnes of leaf waste. The CCP will also buy new tipper trucks for transportation of the solid waste.
