PARC seeks inputs from waste sector professionals

Policy Advocacy Research Center (PARC) is seeking inputs on issues concerning the waste sector from various stakeholders within solid waste management (SWM). These inputs will contribute towards a policy report addressing the various challenges and opportunities within the sector.

The report is designed to highlight the gaps in SWM-related rules and policy implementation, public participation, municipality, and local governments’ attitude, awareness, lack of collaborative approach, and so on. The organisation hopes that collaboration and better understanding of prevailing issues in SWM will help various stakeholders tap the current challenges and working together with sharing expertise will lead to the start of a new dimension in the waste management sector.

Mumbai-based PARC, under the flagship of Vivek Vyaspeeth, is a platform for bringing various stakeholders into policy-making. Says Project Coordinator Ms Ruchita Rane, “PARC has worked on projects in the area of pesticides, oilseeds, agriculture, environment and sewage treatment and now looking at working on Solid waste management through this project. While there exist structural guidelines in the area of  Solid waste management, PARC is looking at bringing about an engagement of all stakeholders to design and develop an implementable model.”

Explains researcher Amaraja Kulkarni, “The main objective of this research study is to understand the gaps in the implementation, understanding stakeholders and their approach towards the solid waste. It will add immense value to the efforts of the government and other stake holders in terms of identifying corrective measures.”
