PMC to turn dumping sites green for Swacch Sarvekshan 2021

The Patna Municipal Corporation has decided to turn traditional dumping sites into green sites by potting plants in all wards. This is being done in a bid to earn points in the Swacch Sarvekshan 2021 which will be conducted soon. PMC had earned zero points in the certification category where points were allotted to cities based on garbage-free certificates and open defecation earlier this year.

PMC officials are confident this will dissuade people from throwing garbage in residential areas, roads and streets. People flouting rules will be penalised as well.

Municipal Commissioner Himanshu Sharma told The Times of India that he has directed ward councilors to identify places in the city where clean-ups can be done. They will also start putting potted plants at the places where people leave their household waste. If anybody is caught littering, the person will have to cough up Rs 500 as a fine.
