
There are ninety-six successful Waste-to-Energy (WtE) projects in India, as per a statement issued by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy in the Lok Sabha. As of October 31, all 96 WtE projects were generating electricity based on urban, industrial, agricultural and municipal solid waste, said the Ministry.
The statement further said that during the last three years, funds to the tune of Rs 76 crore were allocated under the WtE programme out of which Rs 32.64 crore was released to various developers for setting up of WtE projects for generation of biogas/bioCNG/power.
As per the Ministry, in the current year, funds to the tune of Rs 75 crore have been allocated under the WtE and Biomass programmes. Also, Rs 0.82 crore have been released for setting up of WtE projects for generation of biogas/bioCNG/power till date.
