Problems with community AD plants in Thiruvananthapuram

Currently, 8 out of 14 so-called community biogas plants (AD plants located at e.g. public markets or schools) in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, are out of operation. As further stated by the Thiruvananthapuram health committee, the city’s corporation failed to implement annual maintenance contracts (AMC) with any of the 14 biogas companies. The plants are not operational for various reasons, for instance a damaged pulveriser, overloading or a shortage of waste. As indicated in the report by the Times of India, citing an unnamed contractor, there were mandatory operating periods of two years after commissioning. However, contracts for O&M have not been renewed after this period of time.
