Proposed biomass plant in Sargiguda not realised

A proposed rice mill project, including a 6 MW biomass plant and a grain-based distillery, close to Sargiguda, Kalahandi district, Odisha, is not moving forward. In November 2016, the foundation stone for the complex was laid, but construction works have not started yet. As reported by the New Indian Express, the biomass plant was planned to be equipped with two 3 MW turbines each. According to the project developer, Starlight Energy Limited, only the ethanol plant will be set up first, because of insufficient rice paddy for the mill.
