Protests against Okhla WtE plant’s emissions

The residents welfare association (RWA) in Delhi has handed in written complaints at the city’s government and the operator of the Okhla WtE facility, criticising that the plant has been emitting thick black smoke and has covered the Sukhdev Vihar area of the city in ash. The residents have been suffering from the smoke since the plant went operational in January 2012. From the beginning, there had been many protests against the construction of the facility. The plant in the New Delhi suburb of Okhla incinerates 472,500 tons of waste every year and generates about 17 MW of electricity (see also issue 2012-06). This was reported by Waste Management World.
