Punjab: 475cr for legacy waste clearance in 26 towns

The Punjab government has approved Rs 475 crores for legacy waste clearance in 16 towns across the state. Comprehensive bioremediation projects will be included in Patiala, Khanna, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Hoshiarpur, among others. These cities have generated around 55.92 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of legacy waste.

Under the approved DPR, the legacy waste will be disposed at the cost of Rs 800 – 885 MT.

The state claims to have achieved 100 per cent door-to-door waste collection and segregation of MSW, besides preparing 14 district environmental plans to address the problem of pollution.
