Punjab’s New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora has emphasized the need to make optimum use of municipal solid waste to generate green energy and biofuel. The minister declared that his government is committed to promoting alternative and natural energy sources to address the pollution issue and preserve the environment after discussions with representatives of a biofuel company.

He stated that Ludhiana, Patiala, SAS Nagar, and the nearby Urban Local Bodies are proposed locations for the first such plant to handle MSW. In partnership with the ULBs, the company will invest Rs 1,500 crore to set up the hub and spokes.

The facility could process up to 500 green jobs and 1600 TPD of MSW from these significant urban centers and would generate up to 500 green jobs.

Hydrogen mobility can play a pivotal role in decarbonizing sectors such as long-distance transport by trucks and buses that are difficult to electrify, he said, reports Financial Express.
