The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has announced that it will complete its second waste-to-energy plant and Delhi’s first “engineered landfill site” in Tehkhand by September 2022 and March 2023, respectively.

The Department of Environment Management Services has devised a year-long strategy for developing waste management facilities and ending landfill dumping systematically. SDMC collects 3,600 tonnes of waste every day of which 1,600 go to the first WTE plant at Okhla, a portion at the composting plant, and remaining at the landfill.

Work on the engineering landfill site, which will collect WTE plant wastes and inert, is also underway, reports The Times of India.
