SDMC wants to sell carbon credits for better SS rankings

Saket, a South Delhi neighbourhood

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) aims to sell carbon credits created by lowering its carbon footprint to organisations in other countries to enhance profits and improve its Swachhta Survekshan(SS) ranking.

SDMC aims to establish a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MPCON Ltd, a government company, to assist it in registering, authenticating, verifying, and purchasing carbon credit certificates for projects that have already been commissioned as well as those that will be commissioned in the future.

“So far, only the Indore Municipal Corporation has made cash in the country by selling carbon credits and gained attention by lowering greenhouse gas emissions,” an SDMC official told The Times of India.
