A small-scale biogas plant in Domlur, eastern Bangalore city, has been shut down. According to operator Ashoka Biogreen Pvt. Ltd., the plant was closed because Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the administrative body for civic and infrastructural assets of the Greater Bangalore metropolitan area, had refused payments for salaries and maintenance. According to a BBMP official, however, the refusal of payments was due to poor maintenance by the contractor. The plant was opened in 2014 and designed for processing 5 tpd of waste. As further stated by The Hindu, wet waste is still being brought to the plant from where it is sent to landfill sites.
