This week, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has been discussing solid waste management and the use of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) as fuel in cement and brick plants of Kashmir. As reported by The Greater Kashmir, the municipal corporation is still being faced with pressure from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on establishing a Waste-to-Energy facility in the municipality. In management of their waste, the municipal corporation discussed that 20% of total waste collection, comprising polythene and plastic material, has to be utilised in cement industries and brick kilns as fuel. This is aiming at complying with the directions issued by the National Green Tribunal.
