Straw-fired Jaitu plant ready for operation

The 18 MWel plant in Jaitu, Faridkot, Punjab, is ready to generate electricity from paddy straw in this year’s season. According to The Tribune, the plant was built to keep local farmers from burning the straw on their fields. Last year, 100,000 tons of straw were purchased, while this year’s goal is to purchase 200,000 tons. As reported by hindustantimes.com, the plant was developed by Indian agro-energy company Sukhbir Agro Energy Limited (SAEL). It entailed investments of INR 1.41 billion.
