The Indian state of Tamil Nadu is expected to impose new waste legislation soon, following the union government’s 2016 Solid Waste Management Rule. The proposed policy includes a measure forbidding high calorific non-recyclable waste to be landfilled. Furthermore, it was said that a rule requiring industries located near RDF plants to source at least 5% of their fuel consumption from RDF would also be included in the legislative proposal. Another rule would oblige developers of industrial areas to earmark at least 5% of their respective estates for waste management and recycling operations. This was reported by the New Indian Express.
