Trichy corporation has put out a tender to find an agency to manage solid waste management (SWM) in its 65 wards for three years. The chosen agency will use battery-operated vehicles to collect waste door-to-door from residential and commercial properties, with the entire process being monitored by the corporation. The agency will have to create a micro-management plan, including a route chart for waste collection, and the corporation will have the authority to levy penalties on the agency for service deficiencies.
The outsourcing agency must segregate the waste and transport it to the micro compost centres. The agency will reportedly be paid only based on the efficiency of waste collection coverage and quality of segregation. An official observer will monitor the agency’s performance every month, and the local body can cancel the agreement if the service is poor, reports The Times of India. The outsourcing plan is to be executed at Rs 62.8 crore
