Union Cabinet approves continuation of SBM (Urban)

The Union cabinet has approved the continuation of Swachh Bharat Mission (urban) and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) for five years till 2025-26.

The financial outlay for Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) till 2025-26 is an ambitious ₹1,41,600 crore, including central share of ₹36,465 crore for 2021-22 to 2025-26. The outlay for the last phase of the mission was ₹62,009 crore.

The mission will require all cities to achieve at least 3-star garbage-free certification, according to a report in The Economic Times.
