Update on Vengadamangalam WtE plant

Contradictory to earlier information, the Vengadamangalam WtE plant in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, seems to have been operational ever since 2013. The WtE facility is being operated by Essel Group and accepts mixed solid waste from the municipalities of Tambaram, Sembakkam Pallavaram, Pammal and Anakaputhur. According to The New Indian Express, the plant has an intake capacity of 300 tpd of waste and is said to produce RDF from non-biodegradable waste in the future. Essel’s concession contract for operating the plant will last until 2033 at least. Moreover, the Chennai Corporation has announced that it plans to construct a waste management facility in Keerapakkam. However, no details have yet been revealed on this project.
