NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN), a subsidiary of national energy utility NTPC, and the municipal corporation Varanasi Nagar Nigam have signed an agreement for the development of the INR 1.8 billion (EUR 21 million) WtE project in Varanasi, as per a news report.

The plant will be constructed on a 20 acre plot. An Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) Contract will be released soon to speed up the construction of the project. The 600 to 800 tpd facility would produce feedstock through torrefaction.

The tender for the Varanasi project was floated in August 2021, as reported by SolidWasteIndia.
