The Uttarakhand government has released Rs 9.24 crore for solid waste management programmes in different parts of the state. The amount will reportedly be used by the urban local bodies for establishing or further improving the trenching grounds in the state.
The circular released by finance secretary Amit Singh Negi mentions that Rs 79 lakh has been released for Devprayag, 1.84 crore for Kirtinagar, Rs 75 lakh for Joshimath, Rs 49.59 lakh for Kapkot, 1.21 crore for Badkot, Rs 60 lakh for Agastyamuni, 74.29 lakh for Pokhari, Rs 75 lakh for Chamoli, and Rs 2.04 crore for Almora, reports The Times of India.
Late last month, the district authorities were tasked to find out the availability of infrastructure, ecological awareness among local people, identifying gaps, and how they can be bridged.
“The ultimate goal is to become carbon neutral. There are 14 thematic areas that have been notified by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) such as air and water pollution, solid waste management, bio-medical waste management, hazardous waste, polluted river stretches, industrial pollution, among others, which will figure prominently in the state’s comprehensive action plan,” a Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board (UEPPCB) official had earlier informed The Hindustan Times.
