Vijayawada to charge user fee for waste collection from July

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has announced it will start collecting user charges for waste collection in July. Residents of slum areas will have to pay Rs 30 per month while those living in non-slum areas have to pay Rs 120 per month.

The VMC has identified 3.2 lakh households in the city and begun distributing three separate dustbins to promote waste segregation at the household level, reports The Times of India.

The VMC maintains that with expenses on the Swachh initiatives running high, it needs funds for maintenance and cleanliness activities.
