International Waste to Worth Conference: CII 3R Awards announced

The CII 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Awards were announced during the International CII Waste to Worth Conference on Friday. The Awards are designed to recognise the efforts of companies who have set benchmarks in three areas: One, managing waste generated by the industry due to their own activities; two, creating mechanisms or products to ensure there’s minimal waste at the user’s end; and three, managing solid waste and other urban waste across the cities and towns of India. Here are the eight winners selected across different categories:

  • Excellence in 3R For Industry (Managing Own Waste) – Tata Steel Ltd, Mahindra MSTC Recycling Pvt Ltd.
  • Excellence in Managing Municipal Solid Waste: Zigma Global Enviro Solutions and Saahas Zero Waste
  • Excellence in Design, Innovation and Developing Product Generating Zero Waste at User End – Praj Industries
  • Excellence in Managing Plastic Waste – NEPRA, Sarthak Samudayik Vikas Evam Jan Kalyan Sanstha
  • Excellence in Managing E-Waste – EXIGO Recycling

Speaking at the inaugural session, Prof K Vijay Raghvan, Principal Scientific Advisor, Government of India said, “The winners are setting high standards for how we handle our waste. This pandemic is a wake up call and its a very important time for us to work together to solve the waste management challenges facing our country.”

Dr Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Grand Jury, CII 3R Awards and Chairman, Rajiv Gandhi Science & Technology Commission said, “When we recycle our waste and work towards a circular economy, we can achieve a lot. If you do a lifecycle analysis, investments in technological innovation will payback much better than what we can possibly imagine and waste to wealth will become a way of life. The 3R awards, can be leveraged to motivate the industry and create a movement. Collective action is essential to achieve our goal for a Clean India.”

Zigma Environ Solutions Pvt Ltd is one of India’s first and largest integrated landfill mining companies. Established in March 2015 by B Dharmaraj, Ku. Tha Ilangovan, K. P Mutharasu and Nagesh Prabhu. C, Zigma currently operates 12 plants across five states in India, processing approximately 10,000-12,000 Tons Per Day of legacy waste.

Saahas Zero Waste focuses on providing end-to-end waste management solutions to bulk waste generators. They provide consultancy services to plan and design waste management facilities for new and existing properties. They also offer extended producer responsibility or EPR services to brands and manufacturers.
