Agra landfill site to be capped

The Agra Municipal Corporation (AMC) has started capping work at the Kuberpur landfill site.

The landfill site is spread over 42 acres of land and a drone survey estimates that is contains 8.5 lakh metric tonne of municipal solid waste. The Times of India reports that the capping work will be completed within a year. A park will be developed in five acres over the capped space.

AMC will also start work on a waste-to-energy (WtE) plant by the end of the year. A Czech company, Spark Bresson Private Limited has been roped in for this purpose. In October 2017, a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) was signed between the UP Power Corporation Limited to set up and operate the WtE facility.
