Battery recycling plant to be constructed in Krishnagiri

Pondy Oxides & Chemicals Limited and the Government of Tamil Nadu have reportedly signed an MoU in January 2024, regarding the establishment of recycling and manufacturing facilities for non-ferrous metals, lithium-ion batteries, paper, plastics, and rubber.

The MoU includes an investment of INR 300 to 500 million (EUR 3.32 to 5.54 million). According to the source, a battery recycling plant is to be constructed in Shoolagiri, Krishnagiri. The plant is intended to recycle batteries as well as electric and rare earth magnets.

Discussions regarding the development of the plant are reportedly currently being held with a company, however, no further information was disclosed.
