Bengaluru’s new civic body chief talks tough

On Saturday, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) welcomed its new Commissioner – Manjunath Prasad. Mr Prasad was the commissioner of BBMP for three years before BH Anil Kumar’s appointment. He returns to the position amid a surge in coronavirus infections in Bengaluru.

Prasad faces the huge challenge of propping up Bengaluru’s overwhelmed health systems and fixing missteps. Soon after taking charge, Mr Prasad spoke to  The Times of India. Here’s an expert.

Infrastructure development and Covid care need to go hand in hand; we cannot ignore one because of the other. Projects will begin as usual. There are multiple lobbies in BBMP. The common man expects you to play for his side. Everybody has opinions. We need to look into the resources and extend support. The government is controlling expenditure and handling things with care; unnecessary projects won’t be encouraged.
