The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) is planning to rebuild, renovate and upgrade its dry waste collection centres (DWCCs) in the city. This was announced following an audit of all 143 DWCCs in Bengaluru.
Gaps in operations, infrastructure, capacity and financial model have been identified by the civic authorities. The Hindu reports that the BBMP has developed a functional design of the DWCC which will be taken up for renovation, rebuilding and upgrading at a cost of Rs 65 crore.
The civic body’s new DWCC buildings will be designed based on green building concepts including rainwater harvesting, solar lighting, natural lighting and ventilation. Separate areas will be marked for receiving mixed dry waste, sorting and storing for efficient dry waste management.
