Bengaluru’s new waste entity to begin operations by month-end

The Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) has received permission to begin operations by the end of this month. The BSWML is a new entity, which has been given the certificate for operations by the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

The BSWML will start waste collection services, manage processing units and transfer waste to the energy plants soon. Officials from the BBMP will be transferred to the BWSML by June end. The BWSML will initially function on government funding and later evolve into a financially independent entity, similar to the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) or Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), reports Bangalore Mirror.

In an interview with SolidWasteIndia, Mr Sarfaraz Khan, Joint Commissioner – SWM, BBMP, had recently shared the details on BSWML. He had said that the new SPV will be independent of the BBMP and have a separate CEO. Read the full interview with Mr Khan here.
