A new AD plant is being developed by the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani) Goa Campus, as The Times of India reported. The INR 14 million (EUR 175,541) project’s location has not yet been decided but it is planned for a municipality in Goa. It is being developed by the applied environmental biotechnology laboratory of BITS Pilani department of biological sciences. Most of the electricity will be used on-site and certain amounts will be used for street lamps. The unit should process 5 tpd of organic waste and 1 tpd of septage solids, producing 500 to 600 m³ of biogas per day, which can be converted to 1,000 to 1,200 kWh of electricity per day.
