Efforts are being made by the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to remove over 7.5 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of legacy waste accumulated at the Dadumajra dumpsite since 2005.

Of the three shortlisted companies, Aakanksha Enterprises had submitted the lowest bid of Rs 79.68 crore and after negotiations, it has been brought down to the project’s estimated cost of Rs 68 crores. Formalities for allotting the work will be completed soon and the firm is expected to start work on the project within a month. The project completion deadline is three years.

According to a top UT official, MC negotiated with the bidder to reduce the bid down as it was 17% higher than the expected cost in the tender. The state-level technical committee reviewed the bid results and approved them late last week, reports Hindustan Times.
