Chandigarh MC to involve women’s self-help groups in SWM

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is planning to enlist the support of women’s self-help groups (SHGs) in order to create job opportunities in the field of waste management. The administration plans to use women SHGs to administer the newly opened Material Recovery Facility (MRF) centre in Dadumajra. The MRF Centre was recently inaugurated by Punjab governor and UT administrator Banwarilal Purohit.

Securing the participation of women’s self-help groups is viewed as a key step forward in the waste management process. According to sources, the civic body authority has already begun paperwork in this regard and is working on the its modalities and procedures.
