Chandigarh to end RDF contract with Jaypee

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (CMC) has decided to explore options for ending its current contract with Jaypee Group (JP), which operates a RDF plant in the city. According to The Tribune, the reason for the move was a temporary plant shutdown by JP following a conflict with CMC on waste treatment gate fees. A likely termination option for the authority includes paying JP a compensation of INR 300 million (USD 4.5 million) and seeking a new plant operator. The RDF plant previously treated around 550 tpd of waste. Furthermore, it was said that an unnamed private company had proposed a plastic waste-to-fuel facility to be built in Chandigarh.
