The Greater Chennai Corporation plans to implement a number of programmes to completely process municipal solid garbage in Chennai.

According to a Corporation representative, they are looking into the feasibility of constructing two 500-tpd high-capacity bio-CNG plants to treat the city’s segregated wet waste.

In order to reduce the amount of waste sent to the Perungudi and Kodungaiyur dump yards, one of these plants is likely to be built in the North Chennai area and the other in South Chennai.

The bio CNG operator will have a tie up with public sector gas agencies like HPCL for marketing of the bio CNG, to be used as fuel in vehicles.
